I added a dedicated desktop as a hub for my security system, although I didn't want to create an entirely separate computer station - this switch was the perfect answer! By connecting the HDMI cables from both computers to the respective sides of PC 1 and 2 (this requires HDMI - one of my computers only had DP so I needed an adapter) and by connecting the supplied USB cables to the same computers, can i share the peripherals attached to the front of the switch. A simple push of a button on the front panel is sufficient. In addition to sharing a keyboard and mouse, there is an additional port that allows you to share a USB hub, printer, external hard drive, etc. The connector does not require an external power source, it is powered solely by your computer. This is a great solution that has allowed me to avoid duplicating peripherals, which has saved me not only money but also space. This is a great product that I highly recommend.
