News is not true. If you do a computer search for the effectiveness of gaiters, you will find that gaiters are just as effective as other sheet masks. An important factor in a cloth mask is the number of layers it has. This mask has 3 layers; one layer of stretch fabric and 2 large layers of cotton to create a filter bag. If you use a washable filter you have 6 layers. The cotton layers and filters are large and provide much more coverage than the PM2.5 filters used in other gaiters and masks. Two layers of cotton easily cover the nose and mouth, and the filter pocket is large enough to hold a standard surgical mask. I have found that with other masks, be they gaiters or other styles, I find it difficult to speak as the mask is pulled towards my mouth when inhaling. This is not the case with these masks. The cotton layers are large and strong enough that they do not bend in and out when speaking. There is no mask that is as comfortable as no mask. I hate the standard ear loop masks which I find very uncomfortable and generally too small to adequately cover my face. So spats are much better for me. These are the most comfortable leggings or masks I have found. I'm a tall guy - my hat size is 7 3/4 but size XL fits well without feeling too tight. The fit on my face is excellent, with no gaps for unfiltered air to enter and exit, which is a common problem with clip-on masks. Before you put on the mask, you need to wash it, but after that, the elastic fabric is comfortable and soft. a metal nose bridge that helps keep it snug. When the gaiters are adjusted correctly, my glasses don't fog up. I love this mask so much I bought a second and then a third mask. My other masks were sent to my desk drawer at work and to the glove compartment of my car so I have something in case I pop out and forget to take one of these masks with me. I also love that the manufacturer has enough confidence in their product that they did NOT offer a "free gift" for posting a 5 star review, unlike the last 2 items I bought from Amazon . I can unreservedly recommend this product.
