I received the Motor Trend Design rubber floor mats a week and a half ago. This is the strongest smell of outgassing rubber mats I've ever known. As far as I know, rubber naturally emits VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and some people suffer from migraines or bloating. So do not buy this set if you are one of these people. I wasn't expecting them to smell that strong, and rubber doesn't usually bother me, but gosh, they smell. My wife is sensitive to smells so they might not suit us. During the week we had them I tried the usual procedure to speed up the VOC release process from the rubber. I left them in the sun for a week and sprayed them with a pH neutral cleaner (I used vinegar but read online that you can also use Simple Green). After a week in the sun with vinegar spray I washed them in soapy water and put them in our car but they still smell like smoke and burnt so if the smell is still too strong I have no choice but to return them. I'm surprised Motor Trend even sells smelly rubber floor mats like this; I'm sure they can pre-clean the volatile organic compounds from gases to reduce them. I cannot recommend them.
