Review on Enhance Playtime with Melissa & Doug Animal Rescue Shape Sorting Toy by Glen Elevyn

First, it's not really a form sorter. As other reviewers have mentioned, the animals really do fit in EVERY hole so I don't feel like my son is really learning anything. If you only want this because you want to buy your child a shape sorter, then DO NOT buy this. Second, he's 12 months old and his hand gets stuck in holes quite a bit, which never happens with our other, real shape sorter - it's a toy that 'needs maintenance' on the younger end of the spectrum (when I first got it). Bought from me I was under the impression that this was a toy for 12 months and over, so maybe that's not a problem for the 2+ set that is actually recommended). He's never actually been hurt, but it scares him, and I had to pull hard once to get his little arm out. Third, just after my son started playing with it, I noticed the wood veneer on the underside of the truck was peeling. I don't think it could have harmed him, but I pulled him out all the way so he wouldn't try to eat him. The paint on the figures also started peeling off quickly (like DAY 1). Don't expect this toy to stay looking new for long. GOOD - this is a popular toy and the truck body itself seems very strong. The figures are the perfect size for small hands. My son really likes this toy and he plays with it a lot (especially with two machinists that he loves for some reason). I have to give him at least three stars just for his love for him, I think that makes sense. Unlike the other reviewer, our truck's wheels spin well. And honestly, I can't help but support the wooden toys my kid loves so much — they're almost impossible to find in bulk in big stores, and I'm so sick of rows of blinking, squeaking, bulky ones see plastic ones!
