I restored my toilet cistern 17 months ago when I put the first set of these magnets in the cistern. The other day the valve slipped and started leaking. I knew I had to empty the tank and when I lifted the cap I was shocked to find a rock in the tank due to the magnets in the tank. The magnets themselves were covered in "rust" and minerals. My toilet stays bright and white so there is no mineral deposits or rust spots. I was surprised. Since I forgot the magnets and didn't wash them once a month, I decided to throw out the old ones and buy new ones instead. The magnet in the lower right corner was a 17 month old magnet and as you can see it was covered in minerals and rust. The top one was in the cistern of a little used toilet in my guest bathroom and the bottom left one is brand new for comparison.
