Review on 🧩 M3D Filament Materials Compatible with Software by Rick Everett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If you are looking for a first or portable printer -> Buy this.

Pros: * Easy-to-use software * Aesthetically pleasing and compact * Auto-leveling * Large ecosystem of branded materials and parts * Third-party materials also accepted * Good customer service and support * Detachable print bed < - You're right, don't really know how important this is until you have a standalone printer. external filament loading recommended) * This printer produces great prints, but it would be difficult to get stunning prints with it. Summary: This printer delivers great prints out of the box with minimal training, making it a great printer for beginners. I've even bought more of these devices for teaching, demonstration, and mobile use over the years. I even keep one on my desk at work so I can keep typing throughout the day. If I could change anything about this printer, I would like it to work offline via an SD card. While this may not fit the obvious design of using print enhancement software, it improves on the already excellent portability of not requiring a tablet or computer to operate. Compared to MonoPrice Select Mini: * Micro is slightly more expensive than Mini. * Mini does not have automatic bed leveling. * There is no heated bed in the Micro. * Mini does not have its own software: that means you need to know and adjust filament settings, retract settings, print speeds, traverse speeds, etc. * While Micro has its own software and ecosystem, it offers a little less fumbling/fine-tuning options - Tune Settings. * Micro prints almost out of the box, no manual adjustments and adjustments. * Mini offers offline printing via SD card. * MonoPrice cannot provide the same level of support as the M3D * Mini is a rebranded clone and MonoPrice has little to no control over its design or patches. Fine tuning possible. Mini owners are better off if they are already familiar with basic 3D printer models and/or want to spend more time tweaking the settings to get specific results for their prints. Micro offers you a printer at the price of a base model, but with a more user-friendly interface. Also note that although the Micro doesn't come with a heated platen, you can purchase one as an add-on for your printer. A note on "offline printing". Offline printing can result in fewer failed prints. Without offline printing, you need a computer to manage the printer, not the printer itself. This adds an extra "point of failure" to your system. If your computer crashes, software crashes, the operating system decides it needs to be restarted to update, or a bunch of these problems occur while printing, you'll have to start over. M3D is working on a print recovery update that is expected to fix this issue. Problem.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No productivity
