Harley-Davidson's 'official' trunk protectors, like most of their products, are grossly overpriced. These bars are nearly $100 more expensive over HD. I've seen these on a friend's bike and can safely say the ones I bought from Eagle Skull Motorcycle Parts are just as strong, maybe stronger. The parts and accessories sent were of high quality and I could tell they were better when I replaced the original saddlebag supports. The fit was perfect with virtually no adjustments required. Please note that they came with zero directions. I searched HD for installation instructions for the "official" parts and found them more confusing than necessary. I suggest watching a video of someone installing them themselves. As for me, I just found this out myself, but I have experience modifying and repairing my own vehicles, so your results may vary. This was a fairly easy install, but note that this requires removing the saddlebags, original brackets (VERY tight bolts - use non-peelable lube), seat and side covers on both sides of the bike. The nuts that were included were of a higher quality than the stock nuts, but I wish the kit also included spare bolts for all parts. The finished look is very nice and the bars look pretty good to support the weight of my fully disassembled bike. I hope I never need them! The fenders themselves are finished in perfect chrome and the connector to the post is also chrome plated to meet under the saddlebag for a clean and sleek overall look.
