I bought a Plantronics CS55H in 2007, new battery 2013, one of the best items I've ever bought so I'm thinking about it now Battery. Worn out after 7 years, I thought about buying another Plantronics headset. After reading about all of their headsets I settled on the CS540 to make it look like my old one. I have read all information and all reviews and ordered. When I received it we tried to connect it to my system but couldn't. I called Plantronics customer service and told them what phone I have and the woman said it wouldn't work with your wireless system, you need a desktop phone. Page 3 of the User Guide shows a desk phone with a receiver connected to a CS540 base unit. So I ran to Walmart and bought a $50 desk phone similar to the one on page 3 of the manual with a detachable receiver. I hooked it up the same way as shown on page 3 of the manual and it still didn't work. Called plantronics again and they said the brand of phone is not compatible with the headset so I asked which phone works, they couldn't tell me there are that many so they said you can use our VVX300 desk phone ( $63) so I asked if the VVX300 would connect directly to a CS540 headset and they said NO, you would also need a new APP-51 custom cable ($27) to make it work. Why doesn't all the information about the headset say somewhere that it only works on certain phones and also requires an additional special cable? I really wanted this one. I can't give it five stars or one star because I've never used it. I ended up ordering a battery for my old wonderful reliable CS55 that connects to any phone both wired and wired. Plantronics is required to state this on all brochures so they only fit specific phone types. I hope this helps other buyers before buying some headsets.
