It is obvious that you are literally buying a plain white mesh canopy and a string of Christmas lights. And the Christmas lights are in the shape of stars, which is really cool, but once they touch the mesh canopy, they get stuck in it, making it difficult to lay them out once you attach them to the canopy. So it turned out to be a lot more independent than I wanted it to be. The tiny safety pins are used to "attach" the lanterns to the canopy. Unfortunately, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they become addicted. When it was all over, the LED lights were pretty fun. And my daughter was happy. The charger came with a USB cable and I was able to find a USB socket from an old phone and everything worked great! At least we don't have to rely on batteries to make it work.
