, this has been my favorite product for about 10 years. My app descales a single boiler Rancilio espresso machine. I descale every three weeks (domestic use in urban areas with a total hardness of 5.53 grains/gallon). Espresso shots are noticeably tastier and more enjoyable immediately after descaling, and more consistent from shot to shot. Maybe every two weeks would be better. Conclusion: If you use your espresso machine in an area with minerals in the water, you need to descale it regularly. Initially I bought in disposable bags. They are practical but have a higher unit cost. It is a crystalline product that needs to be dissolved in water to be used. Similar formulations are also available in liquid form; they are also more expensive and still need to be diluted. Descaling is easy. The process only takes a few minutes plus exposure time for the descaling solution. The two main ingredients are citric acid (like fruit) and sulfamic acid, a relatively safe, low-toxicity acid that's commonly used to clean in and around food. Preparation The connection was important to me from an intrinsically safe point of view. However, follow the instructions on how to thoroughly rinse the boiler with clean water after descaling and how to store this product safely - there is no protective cap. This product may not be compatible with all espresso machines. Read the manufacturer's instructions. (I have no experience with plastic superautomatics or internal water filters.)
