Incredible performance on steel plates in iron gates

I decided to replace the old Schlage lock on our farm's iron gate with a Kwikset Smart Key lock. I expected there would be a difference in locking depth and there was. This required moving a hole about 2" in diameter 3/8" closer to the edge of the gate in the steel plates on each side of the gate. These steel plates were probably 1/16 inch thick and apparently reinforced for use with locks. Although this required the use of two different cordless drills on two different days (rechargeable batteries had to be charged), only one drill was required. I took a picture, but I hope my words paint a spectacular picture. The ridge remains usable.

Pros
  • CNC rotary file cutters made from heat treated tungsten carbide with a hardness of >90 HRA, hard enough to cut metals such as steel, copper, cast iron and nickel alloys. Works better than HSS cutters, especially at high temperatures.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
