I bought this for my 91 year old mother for two main reasons: (1) She now has trouble reading phone numbers and dialing a phone number and as a result she felt distrusted by her friends cut off. and family as she could only receive calls and could not make calls. (2) She kept forgetting to put the cordless phones back on the chargers, the batteries were dead and as a result there were no calls on her line so we had to switch them back to landline phones. For months we have been trying our best to help her use her regular phones but the situation is getting harder and harder as people have to walk around to find the phones, put them back in their chargers and help her call etc I liked the ability to label the speed dial for each number on the large buttons. I decided not to use photos because it would take me a long time to find good pictures for 10 people of the right size and also because their eyesight is not very good and I wasn't sure if they distinguish faces easily can . So instead I printed each name in the largest font that would fit and labeled the keys with the names. Your phone has two dialing options. The first allows you to use the phone like a regular phone with number keys. In case the user wants to use the "photo set" speed dial option, there is a big button under the "0" button for "photo set" that is pressed first, then the user presses the desired photo (or in my case the Surname). The second option (which I chose) allows the user to simply press the desired button (name/photo) and the phone will automatically dial that number. In this case the phone cannot be used to dial other numbers using the keypad, it is limited to pre-programmed numbers. I chose this option because I didn't think my mom would remember if she should press the other button first (especially since it's labeled "Photo" and I didn't use photos). There is a switch on the back of the phone that allows you to select the dialing option you want. The 911 button on the top of the phone can also be programmed to non-911 (I set it to the main nursing home number). The phone has no visual or audible caller ID, which is a shame, but we have another wired phone in the apartment that has caller ID (and allows normal dialing) so this isn't a problem. There's a speakerphone button that we tested that worked well, but I don't expect it to be used. I removed all cordless phones from the apartment to solve another problem. My mother was able to use this phone right away and make outgoing calls, which she was very pleased about. For incoming calls, the other cordless phone in the apartment has a pager that's loud enough to hear who's calling. It would be really nice if this had caller id as well as she was confused that since it doesn't announce calls she thinks she can't take calls from this phone but hopefully it will get better with time. The phone was very easy to use. set up and the instructions were clear and easy to use. I've read a number of negative reviews about the phone breaking after a few months, losing all programs, or the earpiece volume being too low (or switching to buzzing). As this is a brand new device I have not experienced these issues but will update my review if I do. In the meantime, I would highly recommend this phone to anyone with an elderly parent in a similar situation.
