Have you ever seen a motorhome without a boiler cover? Have you ever wondered why? Well, the most common reason, especially on older motorhomes, is that the manufacturer has put a plastic fastener on the lid instead of a metal fastener. The catch is constantly exposed to ultraviolet light and will deteriorate over time. Eventually they fail and the remaining spring pushes the WH cover out to be picked up by the wind as you go down the road. That's why it's the first thing I replace in every RV I've ever owned. Haven't had to change the WH cap yet, knock wood! Why the WH manufacturer doesn't spend an extra $0.02 to supply them is a mystery!
