This part takes less than a minute to replace. Don't hesitate if yours is plastic, replace it with this stainless steel lock. Just open the door, grab the cam lock and press the spring on the back, the plastic cam lock will release instantly, then reverse the process to install the new cam lock. It takes longer to ensure the water heater is off before changing the cam.

When I tried to install them the metal was so weak they couldn't even withstand their own spring force that came with them. There was nothing strange about my setup, the metal was so brittle.
