Review on LUXERAD Aluminum Radiator 1996 2005 Chevrolet by Gabe Evans

Direct replacement? Not quite.

This should be a direct replacement for my 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. Not quite. After careful inspection and comparison between the old one and this one, it looks like it will be good. All fittings and attachment points appear to be compatible. So I got the old one out. We'll have to throw a few mounting grommets on a new one and we're good to go. And that's when I discovered the first problem. He had interference with the mainstay from above. The brackets are welded too high up on the radiator. I had to sand about 1/8 inch on each side to get it to fit. Then when I put the plastic fan shroud on, you found the second problem. The original radiator is single row, the new one is double row. The fan shroud has a lip at the top and bottom that fits over the heatsink. I had to cut off about 1/2 inch from the top and bottom. Finally it was available. So, I love that I got away from crazy OEM plastic tanks, but if I need to make some adjustments/modifications to make it fit an item that claims to be a replacement part, they should do it for you. know of this fact. Yes, I would still buy it if I knew I would have to make some pretty simple tweaks. Yes, this appears to be a good quality item. (It was only 2 days) Yes I would recommend it to those willing to do the necessary mods to make it usable but they should let you know beforehand. that's all.
