I couldn't do it alone. the smell is pleasant, if you have allergies or breathing problems, it may be a little uncomfortable at first, so breathe out in the fresh air or use little by little and use what you have sprayed. my puppies didn't care that it was there. They didn't like the smell, but it didn't stop them from returning to the area. It also foams when shampooed so water instead stays on the carpet when it foams :(. Definitely not a shampoo as it's new and just cleaned. Maybe a combination would work
