8 test results below! (scroll the description down). Ordered the Pilestone TP-012 glasses for my color blind son. We had no idea what to expect. His immediate reaction when he put them on was "all red" and we thought we were out of luck finding something that worked for him. But after just a few minutes, having gotten used to it, he refused to take it off. We were taking a stroll through the Nickelodeon universe at the Mall of America and thought it would be a colorful place to take them for a test run. He could definitely see and distinguish more colors than ever before before he put his glasses on. Many greens were no longer brown. Reds are more vibrant and some browns are now correctly identified as red! The lilac/lilac colors were definitely a big surprise. Until he put his glasses on, everything purple was blue to him! He just stared in amazement at the purple can of energy drink we were carrying in the car on the way to the mall, trying to figure out how that was possible. ". I've read in several places that such glasses don't help much when testing, but I decided to give it a try anyway, just for fun. We ended up doing this test 8 times. 4 times without glasses and 4 Sometimes with glasses Alternating back and forth This linked video shows tests 7 and 8. Tests were run in slightly different scenarios as described next to each test PC/TV monitors were recently calibrated using a Spyder Elite 4 - not sure this is required but definitely not necessary, I think it might hurt. I wanted to get the best possible color reproduction. Here are the results: Test without glasses: Test 1 - Strong Deutan (on a different PC and monitor than in the linked video shown) Test 3 - Strong German (This TV is on in the backlit room) Test 5 - Moderate German (For this we turned off all the lights in the room - and I think that has helped) Test 7 - EXTREMELY deutan (This is the test from the linked video - and the lights in the room were turned on again) Testing with glasses on: Test 2 - Normal color vision (on a different PC and monitor than shown in the linked video) test 4 - Normal Color Vision (This TV with the lights in the room on) Test 6 - Normal Color Vision (All the lights in the room are off) Test 8 - Normal Color Vision (this test is shown in the linked video - and the lights in the room have been turned back on) The Lighting in the room certainly affected his naked eye perception a bit, but everyone argued that he had some sort of green color blindness. He passed the exam with glasses. Everyone. Lonely. Time. I've always been curious about this type of glasses, I've seen videos on the internet, but I'm also a bit skeptical. Offering Pilestone at a price that wouldn't break the bank convinced me to at least see if they could help. In the end, we're definitely glad we made the investment. There are many types of color blindness and they may not help everyone but for our son these are definitely winners! The only "minus" I see is the red cast. Not sure if this can be improved in the future, but if you wear glasses for a few minutes your eyes will adjust and ignore it. Finally, if it helps you identify more colors, that's good.
