After unpacking, I put the containers and lids in the dishwasher without a seal to clean and sanitize them. When the normal wash cycle was over and had time to cool, I took out the canisters and found the following. 1. A canister cracked on the bottom and sides. very badly corroded. When I touched them, a greyish, powdery substance fell off my hands. I tried rubbing it off but I couldn't. Not knowing what it was, I removed all the hardware and threw it away along with the cracked canister. I do not have any photos. The thought didn't cross my mind at the time, I wish I had one for this review. Did I save the rusted gear again, no. I didn't know what it was and didn't want it
