Item was brand new, unused as I tested 0 hours with HD Tune. Incredible bargain for the price without a doubt. The drive works fine so far. Only criticism is that it is quite noisy. Spins and sounds like a jet engine. You can hear each sector as it reads and writes. My newly built computer is otherwise incredibly quiet, which is a shame. but that's a compromise. I wanted plenty of space for my second drive and I'm used to that. it reminds me of simpler times. =
