Robust but not perfect

This is my second Canon Powershot SD camera. I bought the original S400 in 2003 and loved it. It has better specs and more features, but surprisingly the picture quality isn't much better than my old one. Although the picture quality was always very good. but it's not exactly DSLR-level (I have a Nikon D40 for comparison). There are some things I don't like about this camera. Many options are buried too deep in the menu system and require too many finger clicks to access. Even the simple settings that were easily accessible on my previous model are now harder to reach. Auto white balance is still very poor. The rounded edges look cool and feel like it's easier to slip in my pocket, but they also tend to fall off when you're trying to balance them on a table or book for a group photo. I didn't find IS mode as good as some say. It makes a bit of a difference, but ultimately the built-in lens is pretty slow, so you'll still need to use the flash most of the time when shooting indoors. I really like the large LCD screen and it's amazingly scratch resistant. The camera takes very good pictures and the small size is great. I don't like the ergonomics and I wasn't impressed with the image stabilization. If there were 3.5 stars, that's exactly what I would give it.
