Review on Samsung P2770HD 27 Inch Full HD Monitor with Built-In Speakers by Ondra Stathopoulos

TV on a stick in my review

So I bought this monitor. TV the other day because I wanted a bigger display for my computer because let's face it, my eyesight doesn't get better with age. I usually only buy new, but in this case I bought a used model for $269.00 because the new models were another $100. I read complaints about HDMI device blurry issues and read the solution posted by a user to fix the problem before purchasing this model. I haven't tested the built-in speakers via HDMI connection because I use real PC speakers and can therefore not comment on their volume/quality. Since this is a TV on a stand (not necessarily a bad thing), I had to use the remote to set it up as a TV. It switched to crystal clear 1080P 60MHz resolution with no issues and I didn't have to fiddle with TV or computer controls. I'm using nVidia cards instead of ATI, so I can only talk about setup from nVidia's point of view. The nVidia settings automatically set the system to 1080p, and it was easy to find all the settings in the nVidia control panel to set whatever you wanted (resolution, color, contrast, image quality, etc.). I ran Battlefield 3 on ULTRA settings to test the TV/monitor's ability to keep up with the game (watch for tearing or display lag). I had no problems (VSYNC ON), the picture quality was top notch, the frame didn't shake in fast corners. Since the display worked fine, I didn't check the game mode setting through the TV's settings options. (I need to run Game mode on my TV with my Xbox/PS3 to prevent tearing and stuttering due to the TV's 120MHz refresh rate) (I've tried Skyrim (also with ULTRA settings) but bugs cause crashing to desktop.) Currently the only thing I don't like is the fact that the remote control that came with the TV/monitor is the same as the one for my Samsung TV. So when I set her up, she was also fiddling with my TV. no breach of the terms of the transaction, but fur. And finally, when playing games with resolution switching, a window pops up on the screen telling me the original resolution and refresh rate. Again, this only happened at the beginning of the games and didn't happen again during gameplay, it's just a pet of mine (I don't care what mode/frequency/speed my TV is on, I just want it to be displayed) . In conclusion, I am very satisfied with my purchase. It is big! it's easy to see! and it has tons of ports on the back to hook up other stuff when I need it.

Pros
  • SAMSUNG
Cons
  • Poor connection: If the monitor is not properly connected to the computer, the image may not appear or may be distorted.
