I've had one of these for a few years and it's absolutely reliable. So when I needed another one I was happy to see that the same model was still available. Other reviews mentioned fan noise, but since I already had one, I figured those people were just more sensitive to noise than I am. I always have music on and I never notice the fan in the one I already have. When I lit the new one, I was surprised to find that it is noticeably louder than my previous one. Using the not entirely accurate decibel program on my phone, it was about 8dB louder than the old one. And it seems to me that this difference is enough to hear and notice that this thing is always on. I could turn off the fan, but while I can hear it, it doesn't bother me much. But I wish it had temperature control. Since this block is idle 90% of the time since it's only used for backups, it probably isn't that hot there. Still, I recommend this to anyone who wants to create a dual disk array USB drive and doesn't need to worry about background noise. Or you just turn off the fan. Another note: the instructions for the initial setup of the array aren't entirely clear. They say "press and hold the reset button when changing raid type". What they don't say is that you have to do this for the initial install as well. I assume you are "switching" from unconfigured to configured. LAUGH OUT LOUD
