Everything is fine in the device itself. I use it to listen to train news. I live about 3.5 miles from railroad tracks and get a decent signal after adding another antenna. It's easy enough to carry around in the car when I'm at the track taking videos or photos. The instructions are a bit vague so I watched some YouTube videos and it helped a lot. I use regular Revain brand AA batteries and get decent runtimes. I also live near a small airport so I can listen to some messages from a small plane. The problem I have is that most police/fire departments in my area are digitized and therefore it won't work for them. So again, there is nothing wrong with the device itself. Just find out what's near you before you click the "Police, Fire Department" ad/description and avoid disappointment.
