Powerful unit!

I bought this to have access to local events in case I need to use my bag to find bugs. But it has such unexpectedly good reception and so many useful features that I left it on. all day my poor old desktop device gathers dust. I can pick up signals for all four surrounding counties (I've added a more powerful antenna, but the rubber ducky that came with it is powerful enough on its own), including CB from the freeway and about a mile, all air traffic from the international airport 15 miles…

Pros
  • OS: Linux
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Can someone please write a better guide for this?

Scanner works great, we bought this because we were going to a NASCAR race and wanted to hear driver and crew radios. The bonus was that we also listened to the broadcast of the race (fewer commercials. It was great to hear the announcers say what they really think during the commercial breaks). The problem is the PROGRAMMING. Although I was able to program 3-4 channels, it seemed like more luck than following directions. I also couldn't get it to prioritize the crew channels over the broadcast

Pros
  • Narrow band compatible
Cons
  • Not bad

Nice device with many options.

Beautiful machine! Although I'm disappointed that everything seems to be plastic these days. I feel like it breaks very easily when dropped on the ground. We bought it because there has been an increase in crime in our area lately which is so sad that the area has been so quiet. It actually alerted us when there was a break-in in our area and we were alert when we heard it on the scanner. What I like about this device is that it is very easy to set up and the instructions are there. In the…

Uniden Bearcat handheld scanner

I bought this Uniden Bearcat scanner to monitor the Kansas City Southern Railroad and the Canadian National Railroads in Alexandria, Baton Rouge and New Orleans and the Baton Rouge area. NOAA weather radio frequency. The Uniden Bearcat scanner works best with 2300mAh NI-MH rechargeable batteries. The scanner can also be powered by alkaline batteries, but this type does not last long. After installing two NI-MH 2300 mAh batteries, I still had no charge. This scanner has an integrated circuit…

Pros
  • 300 channels: You can program up to 300 channels into the scanner's memory, with 30 channels in each of the 10 banks. You can then scan the saved channels

It works for me but there are small problems.

Everything is fine on the device itself. I use it to listen to train news. I live about 3.5 miles from railroad tracks and get a decent signal after adding another antenna. It's easy enough to carry around in the car when I'm at the track taking videos or photos. The instructions are a bit vague so I watched some YouTube videos and it helped a lot. I use regular Revain brand AA batteries and get decent runtimes. I also live near a small airport so I can listen to some messages from a small…

Pros
  • Narrowband Compatibility: Proper channel matching with narrowband modulation now required for business and public safety.
