I bought this to have access to local events in case I need to use my bag to find bugs. But it has such unexpectedly good reception and so many useful features that I left it on. all day my poor old desktop device gathers dust. I can pick up signals for all four surrounding counties (I've added a more powerful antenna, but the rubber ducky that came with it is powerful enough on its own), including CB from the freeway and about a mile, all air traffic from the international airport 15 miles south, plus small ones Airfields in the area. NOAA weather, rail traffic, and ham radio broadcasts can be searched when using rechargeable batteries, they can be charged via a USB cable, and the unit can be programmed from your PC via USB.
