This is an effective product and very effective but I had no experience with a mortar and pestle. I followed directions for what manufacturers call "seasoning," which involves grinding plain white rice into a paste in some water. I believe the idea is to absorb all the granite dust left over from the manufacturing process. This is where my learning curve started as I had no idea what movements are effective for this. This is especially true since paddy rice is tough and granular and never reached the desired paste stage. But some of them absorbed some of the granite dust. at least judging by the gray tint it took on. Eventually I went online to watch a YouTube video on how to use the mortar and pestle and once I was able to grind my first product, Sichuan pepper, everything went smoothly. that manufacturers make videos on YouTube about how to hack and use their product. I cannot comment on the durability of the product as I only received it yesterday and used it once. But it's granite, what could go wrong? Unless there's a bug or something else that breaks the line somewhere, I think it should get high ratings for durability, but I left that box blank.
