About 2 years ago my husband and I bought a new mattress. After frequent trips to the store and laying on it to see if it works, we both had less than comfortable sleeps, to our dismay, but neither said anything to the other as the mattress was under 3 years old. I spoke to my masseuse and she suggested a mattress topper. It helped improve our sleep significantly. It offered just enough softness that our backs didn't hurt, but not so soft that you didn't feel the support of the mattress.
