Review on GE Designer 1 Ft Power Strip with 6 Inch Braided Extension: Premium and Compact Black Power Solution (45191) by Richard Cartner

This product is sold under the GE brand, which is one of America's oldest brands of electrical products. However, like many well-known brands such as Polaroid, Kodak and others, the GE name is only used under license - the product is actually from Jasco and made in China. That doesn't take away from the fact that it looks and feels better than most no-name stuff you'll find at the dollar store, and it comes to you in neat retail packaging rather than a plastic bag. So for all these factors, this is a worthy product. The concept is great, a very short 1 foot extension with three exits. This is just what I needed under my desk to make better use of a single outlet and eliminate cord clutter. It looks modern and attractive with a white braided cord and a flat plug that allows you to leave a second outlet free. But there are two things they got wrong. One of them, forgivably, is that the three sockets are very close together, which limits what you can plug into them. Most chargers for phones and similar devices will not fit, and even some thicker power cords can block nearby outlets. But as I said, it doesn't really matter, because it doesn't have to be more than just a short, handy expander. However, there is another problem that I think is serious. The way they designed it, when you plug it into an outlet, the other three-outlet end is pointing backwards against the wall, making it impossible to plug anything into it. Because the cord is very thick and braided, it's not easy to rotate it 180 degrees so the outlets are facing you and away from the wall. The most I can do is rotate the cord 90 degrees so that the outlets are on the floor and facing up. It's a pity that one didn't think of this shortcoming, which makes an excellent product only partially acceptable.
