Review on Carson SensorMag: DSLR Camera Sensor Cleaning Loupe & DustBlaster Air Blast Kit by Mariqn Carey

When the sensor is clean there are no surprises in the pictures

I'll admit that as an Olympus photographer and given Olympus' focus on onboard sensor cleaning, I never thought about the need for such a device. Then I became the owner of the "problematic" Canon 20D. When working on some open-background images, I noticed characteristic blemishes that indicate the presence of dust on the sensor. Dropped it, no luck. I'll cut the story short by saying I couldn't clarify what I couldn't see. My research has shown that SensorMag is the way to go. Carson makes other enlargement products too, so I was confident the picture would be good. Your instructions will help you install the SensorMag on your camera. Before doing this, turn the camera lens mount down and use a blower to blow off as much as possible. The base is configurable for different cameras in APS-C format. I don't know how it will work on full frame cameras. The LEDs clearly illuminate the surface of the sensor, and with a little practice you should be able to spot dirt easily. Since the base stays in place and the flashlight and eyepiece rotate sideways, the cleaning process is greatly simplified (I tried with a flashlight and manual magazine - uninteresting and unproductive case. I mentioned Olympus (and this applies to others Micro Four).Third cameras: As it comes it won't focus on the M4/3 sensor because it will be too close. There is a company that sells an adapter but as long as it's a good idea , until you pay for the adapter and shipping you almost double the cost of the SensorMag. If you're using an M4/3 camera, there's a pretty good chance you have an adapter to fit older lens mounts (Nikon, Canon FD, Pentax). Use Move the SensorMag further away from the sensor so you can focus If you don't have one they can be found here and elsewhere for $10 - yes Works great FWIW which I used works f for Nikon SensorMag Odil and was perfectly stable. All in all, this is a real way to more easily remove dust spots from your images.

Pros
  • Includes zip case and 2 x CR2032 button cell batteries | The SensorMag is NOT compatible with mirrorless cameras.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
