If you clean the sensor yourself, you really should have it.

Ideally, you should not use it. The type of sensor cleaning it's designed for is pretty drastic and best done by professionals. At the same time, professionals are people like us, and almost anyone can do it if they are careful. Of course, this will help you to analyze and clean the sensors with a damp cleaning solution. I was surprised how helpful it was. While examining test shots can work, it seems confusing where dirt appears on the sensor versus where it appears in the image. You can…

Valuable piece of equipment

Good equipment to test a lot more than if your sensor was clean. The plastic construction probably keeps the price down, so I can't fault it. The magnification is fit for purpose and adjustable so you can change the focus. LED indicators help to identify dirt on the sensor. I used it to clean 2 cameras, sensors and mirrors. I am sure that I cleaned all dust particles from the sensors and that there were no scratches or marks on them in the end. After I was done with the camera, I cleaned up the

What is the difference between light and magnification to see dust

A common problem with DSLRs. Eventually, the dust penetrates and settles on the sensor, creating "spots" in the final image. This is exactly what happened to my 2.5 year old Canon T5 on my last shoot. I discovered this when I got home to work with RAW files and saw horrible "bugs" in my shots. Rocket Blower removed the lens and blew dust off the inner camera and sensor. I thought I was fine but the spots stayed. This little LED magnifying glass was needed to see the dust on the sensor. Oh my…

Excellent goods. best camera bags

great product. Allows you to clearly see any dust particles that are on your sensor. The LEDs are nice and bright. The magnification is only about 5x, but that's enough for me to see the sensor clearly. Perfectly fits the camera body where the lens is attached. There is a small gray adjustment lever on the side of the magnifier in case you have a small hole on the camera body where the lens attaches. Works great with my camera: Canon EOS Rebel XS (or Canon 1000D as it is known in other parts of

Worked with a mirrorless camera

This device has an adjustable lens shift of 3 cm (1.25 inch). Unfortunately, this isn't enough to work with typical mirrorless cameras, which have sensors much lower in relation to the lens mount. The lens needs a slightly larger distance from the sensor surface to focus. Many, including the manufacturer, have stated that this magnifier does not work with mirrorless cameras for this reason. First, it will work, but you have to lift the mount over the lens flange to focus it, rendering the whole

Useful though. Mirrorless camera owners, read below.

On Sony A6000/A7 series mirrorless models, you must unscrew the reference lens completely from the body to achieve focus (unless you're holding your head over the lens and looking from a distance). . It's designed more for DSLRs where the sensor sits deeper in the body. However, when it's in focus, the image is sharp and dust is easy to see on the sensor. I was going to return it but after removing the lens from the base it seems to hold up for the money. To use it in my case, I hold the base…

When the sensor is clean there are no surprises in the pictures

I'll admit that as an Olympus photographer and given Olympus' focus on onboard sensor cleaning, I never thought about the need for such a device. Then I became the owner of the "problematic" Canon 20D. When working on some open-background images, I noticed characteristic blemishes that indicate the presence of dust on the sensor. Dropped it, no luck. I'll cut the story short by saying I couldn't clarify what I couldn't see. My research has shown that SensorMag is the way to go. Carson makes…

Only use if you REALLY want to know

I've tested for years of dust on the sensor using the standard blue sky or white wall tests. And it has served me very well. Finally, if you can't see the specs in the enlarged images, the sensor is clean. Right? Enter this inexpensive device. Bought primarily as a toy for gadgets, but intellectually justified under the pretext of saving time for test shots. I was really surprised when I first saw this loupe at how well put together it was. Yes, it's plastic; But for the $18 I paid for it, it's
