Review on Carson SensorMag: DSLR Camera Sensor Cleaning Loupe & DustBlaster Air Blast Kit by Bob Roberts

Worked with a mirrorless camera

This device has an adjustable lens shift of 3 cm (1.25 inch). Unfortunately, this isn't enough to work with typical mirrorless cameras, which have sensors much lower in relation to the lens mount. The lens needs a slightly larger distance from the sensor surface to focus. Many, including the manufacturer, have stated that this magnifier does not work with mirrorless cameras for this reason. First, it will work, but you have to lift the mount over the lens flange to focus it, rendering the whole mount useless. If you don't want to lift it, buy a pair of $1 reading glasses from Dollar Tree and it will focus for you, mounted in its intended seating position within its normal adjustment range. The best reading glasses for a person with normal vision would be +2.50 to +3.50. I did best at +2.50 and a setting near the widest separation distance. I've used it on Sony's E-mount, A7S, and A7R mirrorless cameras, where the sensor is about 17mm from the outer surface of the lens mount flange. I have used other lighted loupes designed for camera inspection. sensors. The ones I used didn't have a mount: you always had to hold it over the lens mount flange no matter what type of camera you had. These others did just as good a job as this one. The benefit of the mount is that it holds the lens in place, giving you a better view of the sensor while cleaning. The assembly is a definite plus. I'll use the reading glasses trick.
