I have just received this item and it appears to be very secure. So far the problem is only in the lock. It comes with a default value of 0-0-0 and NO reset instructions. I found instructions online, they were similar but didn't work. So I sat down and played with it, figured it out, and decided to share my efforts with future buyers: Open the lock with the default 0-0-0. Don't forget to press the silver keyhole at the bottom at the same time. Rotate your hand 180 degrees, push in and pull out the silver keyhole at the same time. This will unlock the buttons. Set a new number, reinsert the keyhole and lift the lever. You should be able to twist your hand, close it, and continue using it. I hope it helps! UPDATE: Just used on a cruise - love love love! We found ourselves in a situation where we had to leave our belongings unattended on excursions and didn't have time to find a locker. I locked our valuables in this safe attached to a large lounge chair. It was safe and I was glad others just had to leave their stuff behind and hope for the best! To make it less noticeable I carried it in a Thirty one Cinch bag which it fits perfectly. Great product - I'm so glad I bought it!
