In short, this drive cannot be pulled out because it has no SATA interface and the USB control board is soldered. See attached drawings for details. Opening a disc is very easy. Use a 2mm hex screwdriver on each of the four corners of the aluminum plate. Carefully pry up and remove the panel. There is some resistance as it is held in place by four soft strips of adhesive. From there, pull out the four plastic latches holding the drive in the case. Now you can lift the drive slightly and remove it from the case. Upon inspection, I found a Western Digital drive with the model number "WD50NMZW". USB interface, control board soldered. The developer may have reused an old controller board design, as if you look to the left of the USB port you can see the solder points that correspond to the SATA port where you would expect the port to be. In any case. , I found what I needed, reassembled the hard drive, and now it serves as my external USB drive. Update October 25, 2020: Still using it, still works great.
