Review on The Ultimate Morakniv Bushcraft Knife: Incomparable Performance in Sleek Black by Jeremy May

Fur is best advertised in Knives & Tools

Let me start by saying that this is a regular knife. This is not the best, not the worst, but maybe the most expensive budget knife in this category. Normal knife for 3 stars. Suitable as a backup knife but I wouldn't consider it a main knife. First the good: The blade is good. It's sharp, shaves wood, cuts well and sharpens easily. The handle is ergonomic and fits comfortably in the hand. That's all. The bad, the annoying, and everything else: This isn't a full-blown knife. He wants to be alone and of course disguises himself as such. If you look at full stock Moraknivs you will see that they have a small piece of stock that sticks out from under the handle. This one has some plastic sticking out of the handle that looks exactly like a full-stock knife. Just plastic masquerading as a shaft. The grip is ergonomic but not the strongest. It feels like it's about to break. Push it down and you can almost feel it fall apart. The sheath is a joke. Serious. Kind of crappy, hardly holds a plastic case. I wouldn't trust this knife at all. I wouldn't expect this knife to last a week in the field. It looks like there's not much you can do with it without damaging it. Cut out some spicy hot dog sticks, that's probably it. It seems that this knife can only reliably shave small pieces of wood. For the price I would have preferred a full wrap knife from Schrade. It has a stupid survival sheath, but other than that it works fantastic. I'll keep this as a Schrade backup, but only because I already bought it. If I were looking for a Schrade replacement I would just buy another Schrade since it costs a few bucks more. Morakniv makes decent blades and then insists on putting them in poorly made plastic hilts and scabbards. I think that's her case. Make that full stock, put it in a leather sheath and give it a wooden handle and it becomes a decent knife. Although the half-blade knife is made of plastic. For the price of the Morakniv Companion, it really should be more. For $15 that would be a decent deal.
