Review on Leviton 3800-OEM Equipment Cabinet Surge Protective πŸ”Œ Device - 120V AC, 2P, 3W, Wired-In Module by Jose Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for wired devices

I bought two for use in my home's air conditioners after noticing the amount of electronics on the control boards in each during preventative maintenance. These control boards cost over $500 according to my service department, so surge protectors seem like cheap insurance to me. A lot of electronics in my house are connected to ribbon surge protectors, but these protectors cannot be used in dedicated circuits for devices that do not use a plug. This protection device plugs directly into the unit's incoming power cords and is easily secured using the built-in mounting tabs. It also has a nice LED indicator on the wire pins which allows it to be installed independently of the surge protector so it can be seen from the outside of the unit. It lights up when the power is on and the protection is working. The power cords are about six inches long, as are the wires to the LED. The surge protector meets the updated safety requirements of UL 1449, Third Edition (much safer than previous versions) for Type 4 surge protectors, and Leviton offers a 10-year product warranty. It's a relatively inexpensive solution for protecting directly connected devices, and knowing that it works provides significant peace of mind.
