Review on Liftmaster 41C4220A Chamberlain Craftsman LiftMaster by David Reyes

I have a 1993 LiftMaster 1245 garage door opener. It stopped working - ugh! The engine ran, the light came on, but the door didn't move. The solution was in this "kit"! At first I thought I just needed to replace a white plastic inner sprocket driven by a worm gear. When I opened the device, I found an even bigger surprise. The white sprocket was predictably worn and had white plastic shavings all over it. However, the white star was covered in black metal dust. It turns out that the metal sleeve over the gear shaft has dissolved! This kit contains everything you need to replace the worm gear on the motor shaft as well as the sprocket assembly. Came in normal packaging. It looks like it is an aftermarket part and not from the original manufacturer Chamberlain. There were instructions in the kit but they are very basic. I have a good experience in mechanics and it took about two hours to disassemble, replace with some not very common tools, set up and test. I added plenty of gear lube (Lubriplate Multi-Purpose Gate or Garage Door Opener, 1.75 oz) to reduce friction and reduce the risk of premature failure. I also took this opportunity to lubricate the chain drive, lift springs and rollers with medium oil. The system is now much quieter! During my initial research, I found many variations on the LiftMaster garage door opener and was unable to determine which parts were compatible. As it turns out, Chamberlain makes about half of the brands, including LiftMaster and Sears Craftsman. Many devices share many of the same internal parts. Chamberlain has a great website for parts and support information. I am deducting a star because this kit is not a Chamberlain part and because of the quality of the instructions. Overall, the parts fit and my garage door is now working again!
