In short: great atomization but needed help. Paint 6 interior doors before installation, paint 3 wing doors. My first application was with Behr Premium Semi Gloss Enamel in Ultra White. I followed the directions which advise "do not thin latex paint except in extreme cases" and proceeded to paint my new baseboards and cabinets. The syringe just couldn't do it. I tried all sorts of settings: high air, low volume, low air, high volume, and everything in between. The sprayer just threw out huge balls of paint that weren't good for any type of painting. I went back to the detail brush, cleaned the gun and decided to do some more HVLP research. Next came the interior doors. My research led me to purchase cone filters to fill the paint cup to keep debris out of the gun. Since this was the last layer, I added a generous dose of Flood Paint Leveler. I add "Flood" (bought in an orange box) each time I'm done to give an even finish. And finally - I mixed warm, clean water straight into the paint tank along with my semi-gloss enamel and flood. I used a paint mixing attachment and mixed thoroughly until I got a very runny mixture. The instructions state that you don't need to thin the latex paints, but reality proved otherwise after my first attempt at completion. I set the doors upright and started spraying. After a first test on a piece of wood, the gun worked great! Since I was spraying latex paint, I kept the airflow very strong. Since the paint was thicker (even after the flood and water) I kept the paint flow as low as possible so the set screw wouldn't fall out. I decided that a few thin coats are way better than a chunky finish. The results were incredible! The gun produced a perfect spray on all my doors. I sprayed each side 3 times, alternating the spray directions as these were raised door panels. I waited for the coats to dry, turned the doors around and did the same on the other side. A little note; While waiting for the layers to dry I had to refill the gun paint reservoir, remix (add water) and remix. I also had to flush it between coats to keep the latex paint from drying in the gun's channels and ruining my finish. Summary: Buy screens to fill your paint tank. Latex paints such as moldings/door paints. Cover EVERYTHING in the room you are spraying unless you want paint sprayed on it (I built a spray room in the garage by hanging plastic sheeting from ceiling to floor). Use a quality respirator when spraying, not a cheap doctor's mask but a genuine 3M cartridge filter respirator
