Not epic but it works
so you can see where the patch is, you can even see the size/shape of the broken hole. But that looks better than a hole and seems to prevent further spread/splitting. I don't know what will fix the patch, maybe some thicker material but I don't want to layer the patches on top of each other as I'm sure that would just form a lump. Next time I'll look at a filler + patch like solution, but it was quick and easy
