My horse has been using this blanket for two years now. It was her usual winter coat in Phoenix, and now it's her raincoat in winter in the snowy mountains when it's too warm to wear her big winter blanket. This kept her dry during some heavy showers (over a sheet to help insulate and kept her dry) as she likes to be out in the rain from time to time. The butt strap is useless and I ended up cutting it off because it collected all her junk and was constantly dirty.
