Review on Weller WSB25WB 25W Woodburning Barrel Tool by Adam Ross

Waste of money on soldering and soldering supplies

The variety of nozzles included in this set was good for the price. The included storage box is handy to organize everything neatly. The wand heats up quickly and the amount of heat supplied seems fairly constant when fully heated. It gets hot, so it burns wood. The handle, the part you have to hold, gets pretty hot. Not hot enough to cause severe burns, but hot enough to cause discomfort. I'm not weak in such things. I can wash dishes in hotter water than most people would find acceptable. So, I think this pen is really probably getting too hot. Replacing the tips is a bit of a hassle as they screw into the wand. So that means you use a tool (not included) to grab the hot tip, unscrew it, and place it somewhere safe to cool. The next tip should then be screwed into the Hot Stick. A bit of a hassle but if you are careful you can do it safely. When attaching the tip, I usually held the tip still and wrapped the wand around the tip. A hinge on the cable would be nice so that the cable does not twist when changing attachments. After changing the nozzles several times, one of the ends of the screw in the stick broke. A broken piece of screw is stuck inside the wand rendering the entire kit unusable. I cannot recommend this product. I have not used this for commercial wood burning operations. It was only used at home to do some crafts. I was just learning how to move this thing through wood when it broke. It was a waste of money. As usual, Revain did an excellent job of returning the defective product.

Pros
  • Used for hand tools and organizers for tools, roofing and paneling
Cons
  • Not bad but...
