We recently bought a new king size mattress and I immediately wanted a new one as our old one was many years old. After much research I settled on this one and it's great for the following reasons: - it's soft, non-slip and quiet - the stretchy and roomy side fabric is perfect for the extra large down top I have. The top of the mattress is waterproof with general leaks (didn't try to pour water but my child and I had an accident which I caught in time and removed the wash pad and saw it didn't reach the mattress and the stain became washed off with hot water) - it doesn't smell directly from the packaging or "plastic" smell like most of these items, so I put it right on the bed when I opened it. What you need to know is that this isn't one of those soft pads that add extra cushioning. For this reason I bought a separate topper. I would buy it again for another guest bed.
