The actual U-tube was not centered when the fasteners were welded causing the tire to tip slightly to one side when fully fitted which I think is the main reason for this thing breaks. When walking slowly, the front wheel began to sway from side to side, or "swing at speed." Imagine that one of the wheels of a shopping cart turns from side to side. I'm pretty sure a slightly tilted wheel will try to tighten the square tube, which in turn will start to twist/resist twisting, leading to even more speed fluctuations. Pressure on the grip would normally alleviate the wobble a bit, but I suspect all that twisting has worn down the aluminum plate and tube. Basically, I should have just returned it on day one and made my own rebuild. On the other hand I drove slowly enough that my dog didn't get hurt but the way back was quite difficult as he has wobbler syndrome so I swallowed my pride and bought a dolly and conversion kit. The photo of the underside of the forks should show that they are on a flat surface using a spirit level.
