These chains are easy to handle. Most of the time, however, they don't look painted. They look dark gray depending on the sun outside. Even with the back on, there's white in the butterfly design. If you remove the backing, all white becomes transparent. I bought another pack of forty different designs and they are all beautiful in color (including white in the design). I just bought them again. I also bought large hummingbirds on my first purchase and they have the same problem of not showing their color most of the time. All three designs are hanging on our windows and have never been met by birds. We just prefer the lobsters that WE can always see.
