This third arm comes very handy when you need to hold small items that you want to solder but are too small or bulky to place on a surface and solder . The detachable alligator clips are well made and strong enough to hold wires and other items when handling. The posable arms they are attached to are strong enough to position them and hold them where you place them reasonably with most of the objects you are working on. The third lever and clamp can really make a difference and after learning about the device I really liked them. The clamp that holds everything in place could use some improvement but is handy for soldering heavier items on the table. I got this for stability, but I would have preferred a weighted stand for this rather than a clamp. The clamp is strong but it can damage the countertop and you need to "just put it on" to make a strong connection where you simply mount it on your countertop with a weighted base and that's it, you too can do a job shelf Shelf under your countertop element to hold small parts or catch excess solder. Overall this is a good stand, but I would have preferred the base model instead. Would recommend anyway.
