After using $10 membrane keypads this board feels incredibly smooth. Although I had no experience with mechanical keyboards, I could immediately notice a certain spring ping when typing fast. If you type lightly, it won't be noticeable in normal use. But if you're more of an autocratic type like me, then the "spreading out" sound of the bottom end switches will sound pretty distinct. I definitely prefer this board for gaming as simply pressing WASD feels much smoother compared to the membrane. This is where Cherry Red's light linear actuation comes into play. Build quality is superb for a $50 movement, as the aluminum bezel pretty much eliminates flex and feels solid (even a little heavy). I'd happily pay $100-$150 for a hot-swappable version to try out different switches. If you know Cherry Reds is the switch for you and you like the TKL layout, this is a solid out-of-the-box choice for the newbie starting out with keyboards.
