Could have used more padding but plan to put this faux fur bed in a wicker or cot rather than a pillow for the bed. Basically I'm going to use it as a pillow for the couch. In itself it is fur. The lower section didn't meet my expectations for cushioning, especially for older or elderly cats. The bed is generally thin but warm and soft. I know my cats will use it. To wash this I wash it in a front loading machine on the gentle cycle in cold water with borax or white vinegar to strengthen the laundry soap. I will NOT use fabric softener as it coats the synthetic faux fur fibers making them dull/clumpy. It will not be silky soft plush. Instead, I put it in the dryer on the lowest temperature possible, or no heat, lint cycle. I can use wool dryer balls with a few drops of lavender essential oil to freshen up any pet smell, which is much safer for pets than toxic fabric softener. I received this pet bed in exchange for an honest review. I leave honest reviews because I know pet owners want the best for their furry loved ones. This pet bed can also be placed on your bed if your cat or dog likes to sleep in bed with you. Thus, the bed's mattress provides a cushion under this pet bed. This size fits cats from 8 to 14 pounds (based on my pets). Only one cat can comfortably fit. When opening the box, make sure the bed comes in and doesn't get cut open. Maybe peel off the tape from the box to avoid cutting the bed inside. It's vacuum packed for shipping, but if you shake it well it will immediately fluff up and expand.
