I bought these after reading tips on Reddit for reducing foot sweat while wearing boots - specifically the Redwing weekend chukka - as they've been known to due their way lead to sweaty feet skin is manufactured and manufactured. Therefore, thread by thread, light wool socks are recommended by all RH-WC owners. I thought why not if it helps a lot, if not I'll try something else. Suffice it to say that these socks are perfect for this problem and are just great, comfortable socks. I have large calves and am amazed at how well they hold up. They actually hold without compression, which isn't always mutually exclusive. One issue, albeit a very small one, is that the first pair I ordered were navy blue (with orange on it) and they were great and comfortable. But after I decided to buy a second pair to not just wear one set, the black set became a bit different. They were a bit shorter and pulled down my calves - they weren't all navy blue. I contacted Enerwear and they told me very quickly and honestly that there is indeed a slight fit difference due to the pattern change. Something I probably should have found out beforehand but they offered to send me a new pair due to a misunderstanding. In any case, these socks are very beneficial and I definitely recommend this seller.
