The shoes have a strange smell very similar to marijuana and I said we won't be wearing them in public! but we put them outside and i rinsed them with water and the smell of the skunk quickly disappeared. It was easy for my little girl to close them without asking my help, so I don't agree with other reviews saying the buckles are broken. The way I see it, if a kid can figure it out, the problem isn't with the buckle, but with the fact that man is very tangled up in a simple strap. Jelly shoes usually leave big blisters and these were so soft and I've never heard a complaint and it definitely lets me know when a blister occurs. Great skunk smell from shoes that dissipated quickly!
