After careful research, still not what was expected.

The network is full of reviews and other information, mostly positive. While relatively cheap by today's standards, it's still an investment that needs to be carefully considered. Even after checking all of this information before purchasing and weighing my expectations, I am disappointed with what I received.1. Concealment: There is a lot of discussion about anti-glare and concealment. What I found is that the lens definitely diffuses front light where no lens hood can help. It doesn't take long to shift the shadows and end up with weird colors that are difficult to correct and still end up with a kind of whimsical feel. It's not a halo or dreaminess, just a gentle rise of shadow across the frame from each dominant front light. 2. Resolution: Looking at the graphics provided by the manufacturer, the drop in sharpness towards the edges seems to be well controlled. Until you realize that the manufacturer's chart is for 10mm/single line, not line pairs like Zeiss specs or others. A7 has a sagittal resolution of >200 pix/mm, dividing by 2 for Nyquist pairs/line gives about 100 line pairs/mm. This lens has a sharpness for 10 lines or 5 line pairs/mm or according to the specified stretch for 30 lines or 15 line pairs. This is about 1/7th to 1/20th of a round that A7 can do. The copy I received has an upper right corner that looks radially blurred. It's no sharper than 10-20 pixels. I'd like to say this is a quality control issue, but manufacturers never claimed they could resolve every pixel, or even half of them, on a 24MP camera. In fact, after some math, this 20px radial blot is spot on! I think in most cases you will be able to make better decisions. In the middle it has a resolution of 2-3 pixels, with post-sharping it mostly looks ok, but it is far from modern standards. It's true that sharpness isn't everything and some images like faces can look a bit softer but that's very specific and the fact is that the sharpness of the copy I got is so bad and the drop off in one corner is much worse is than in the other x3 . Going down doesn't really improve my copy for that angle.3. Distortions: While not as severe for a 24mm lens, they are present and certainly affect the aesthetics of portraits, and in the case of architecture they definitely need to be corrected. I'm using CaptureOne, don't have a custom profile and couldn't find a match or use a general fix to straighten all the lines.4. Focus Reliability: Many have said that focusing is fast and reliable, with most citing the A7M3. I have an A7M2 and the focus is NOT reliable. 1/3 to 1/4 out of focus. This could be due to an outdated focusing system, or more likely a lens that is too soft. I also think that he is relatively slow and hunts too much. Pretty much every other lens I own, including the Sigma and Sony, focuses very quickly and reliably. The above issues are enough to send it back.
