The best PC speakers right now, but .meh. Bass issues

So I had to get a sound card to make it sound good on my computer which I think is fine. Frankly, these speakers just don't sound good without the Soundblaster software to tune them. The subwoofer can be slightly distorted if the software crossover is not properly adjusted. Satellite speakers have no bass. I think the device has some kind of internal crossover for them or something. On my mobo I could hardly get the bass to play properly. I need to use bass redirection in the sound card software. Also, 5.1/Sub just didn't work properly when watching, for example, YouTube or non-surround videos without the Soundblaster software to redirect the stereo audio to the rear speakers. The device has a 2.1/5.1 toggle, but toggling is annoying and when switching to 2.1, the audio cuts out slightly. So far the quality is good. I've had other speakers (2.1 inch speakers) that lasted about 6 months which was disappointing. I think it helps a lot to have RCA jacks on the back instead of the nifty 3.5mm jacks. Once I set them up properly with the sound card and software, they sound good most of the time. However, the road to get here was long. I'm not sure how they will sound on a TV or home theater. I also don't know how it would work for a normal user. I have nothing to compare so I can't judge too harshly. My biggest concerns were getting the sound right on my computer, the ease with which the subwoofer distorted (setting a crossover in the software helps, but again it's trial and error), and the lack of bass from the satellite speakers. I wish they had more lows and mids. For now they satisfy me but I think next time I'll build my own speakers to get exactly what I want.

Pros
  • Stereo shelving
Cons
  • I'll write back later
